Design Concept: Inspired by a love for music, Ensemble implements a double meaning relating to musical creations and creating a home that strengthens family “togetherness.” The element of music positively impacts users’ overall mood and stress levels while providing comfort. The element of togetherness inspires families to cultivate their relationships with family and friends and establish a long-lasting support system. Ensemble embodies the concept of a “forever home” by encouraging families to grow, develop and age comfortably throughout their lifetime. The core of the home, featuring a sun room, music room, living space and green room, acts as a focal point and gathering area that invites groups to come together and create lifelong memories. Flexible spaces allow homeowners to re-adapt the home to suit their specific needs as they change throughout the years. The indoor green room provides a sense of being united with nature while promoting a healthy lifestyle with raised gardens and plentiful daylight.

Goals: Ensemble encompasses the idea of a “forever home” by implementing multi-functional spaces that can be rearranged to better suit the needs of the homeowners. During the third stage of life, independent living, elderly couples develop the need for in-home healthcare. The redesigned master bedroom allows furniture to be rearranged to accommodate for a typical bedroom layout, an acute care layout and a hospital bedroom layout. The acute care layout provides space for a queen size bed next to a bariatric hospital bed (42”x80”, up to 600lbs), 5’ on either side for wheelchair access and areas for medical equipment. The hospital bedroom layout allows two bariatric hospital beds to be side by side with wheelchair access and areas for medical equipment. The exterior door provides additional access for medical personnel and equipment to enter the home when needed.
